Welcome to the Searcy String Works web site. My name is Clint Searcy and my passion is making pickups for stringed instruments. I started playing bass guitar when I was about 12 years old, and by the time I was 13 I was adding pickups to my instruments and working on all my friends' guitars and basses. I owned a soldering iron, a router and a copy of "Guitar Electronics for Musicians". Many years later, after moving to Nashville, Tn, I was building myself a bass and wanted a pickup that didn't exist. Just a simple, small pickup that I could put under one string so I could shape the sound of that string alone, independent of the other strings on the instrument. But you couldn't buy one, so I decided that I would make some for myself. I spent about two years learning how to make pickups, testing ideas, doing research, and refining the process until I was happy with the results. It wasn't long before there was so much interest in that first design that I started taking orders and developing other pickup models. The culmination of my efforts is Searcy String Works; a one-man pickup-making company just outside of Nashville. I hand make pickups in small batches for high-end guitar and bass builders and offer limited sales to the general public. Many of my designs are unique to the industry; I take great pains to insure that every pickup is made to high quality standards with high quality parts. It is my privilege to see my passion for making pickups fueling the musical passion of the players that use them.
